More than 12,000 people live and work at Nellis Air Force Base, home to the largest advanced air combat training mission in the world. The solar system meets 25% of the base`s total electricity needs, and reduces carbon emissions by 24,000 tons over 30 years.
The SunPower solar project did not require capital investment by the U.S. Air Force. MMA Renewable Ventures LLC financed and owns the system, selling power to Nellis at a guaranteed rate for the next 20 years.
The project covers 140 acres and equipped with SunPower single-axis trackers and 70,000 modules manufactured by SunPower, Sanyo, Suntech, and Evergreen Solar.
